Poker isn't just luck — there are strategies and core principles that can significantly improve your chances of winning.
The most common mistake new players make is playing too many hands. Be patient and only play when you have a strong starting hand — A-A, K-K, Q-Q, A-K, and so on. Fold more often than feels comfortable at first.
Late position (button or cutoff) is a huge advantage in poker — you act after your opponents and already have more information about their hands. Use that position to play more aggressively and take down pots you wouldn't otherwise deserve.
Pot odds help you determine whether a call is mathematically profitable. If your chances of winning are greater than the ratio of the bet to the pot, making that call is the right long-term decision.
Pay attention to your opponents' betting patterns — do they always bet big when they have a straight? Do they check-raise on a flush draw? Keep mental notes of these tendencies and use them to make sharper decisions the next time you face them.
